The Dartmoor Shepherds Hut

The Dartmoor hut is the smallest hut in our range and is most reminiscent of the original shepherds huts which were common during the 19th century. These would have provided a warm and dry respite for Shepherds watching their flocks. We have named this model after our nearest National Park, Dartmoor, an area of harsh terrain which is well known for its sheep farming today. See our example layout and specification for ideas although we can build your hut however you wish as each and every Shepherds Hut that we build is crafted by hand in our Devon workshop.

Standard specification:

  • 4.2m x 2.2m (Other sizes are an option).

  • Steel steerable chassis with traditional cast iron wheels and detachable drawbar with towing eye.

  • Framework built from structural grade timber using conventional methods.

  • Insulated floor, walls and ceiling using Celotex for comfortable use all year round.

  • Cedar feather edge external cladding.

  • Oak style vinyl flooring.

  • Hardwood glazed door

  • 1 large and 1 small timber, double glazed, opening windows.

  • Traditional styling inside, see our photo gallery for examples, we can build to any style if you have alternative ideas.

  • Internal wall or ceiling lights and 2 external downlights.

  • Fully decorated in colours of your choosing. 

  • Wood burning stove on raised solid slate hearth with slate back boards.

  • Fitted bed frame with access to storage below the bed and a shelf at the headboard of the bed. 

  • 240v electrics with plug sockets or a 12v system to run from leisure battery. This can be coupled with our solar charging system.

  • Set of treated timber steps to suit your hut.
